Video Files on Web Pages Sample

Here are the steps I use to
add video files to my VE web pages.

  1. First, make sure you have
your video file optimized for the web. Video comes in a variety of formats
including AVI, WMV, RAM, SWF, MPEG and MOV. Each has advantages and
disadvantages. For this example I am starting with a MPG file better
known as an MPEG. It is about 1 megabyte in size and was made with a
standard off-the-shelf digital camera. The video is only 5 seconds long!

  2. Using a commercial video
editing/converter software, I have saved this file into a 400KB AVI
file. The MPG would have worked too, but the download time was a problem.

  3. Next I uploaded that new,
smaller file to my web server. I have uploaded the AVI file to http://www.PastPerfect-Online.com/mikunihorse_NEW.avi

  4. The next step is to link
to that file from the PastPerfect record. I need to place the HTML code
into a field that is being uploaded to the web. For this example, I
decided to use my user defined field 21.

  5. I type the following in
    field 21:

To See Video Now: <a href="http://www.PastPerfect-Online.com/mikunihorse_NEW.avi">Click
    Here</a>

Before you rebuild your Virtual
Exhibit website, be sure to go to each exhibit page and click the update
button so your data changes are reflected in VE. You can then "Build
HTML" in Virtual Exhibit and upload your site as normal. When you
view your records you should be able to click and link to your video.

My example is at http://www.pastperfect-online.com/vewebsite/

PastPerfect-Online users can
use the same HTML to link their video (uploaded to a remote web server)
to their PPO catalog records. The links will appear on your PPO website
the next time you upload your data.
